Walter's mother died when he was two, and his father was always gone. 
As a result, the family has only a few photos of Walter from 1922 to 1942.

Walter Winkopp adopted the stage name "Walter Windsor" after performing at The Windsor Theatre.  It was located at 315 E. Kingsbridge Road in the Fordham district of Bronx, New York City. The Windsor Theatre opened around 1920 and was initially a playhouse and live theatre. Seating was provided for 1,600. By 1941 it was operating as a full time movie theatre. It closed in the 1950's.  Today the facade and front entrance have been re-built and is now in use as a Law Office. The terra-cotta frontage to the adjacent parade of stores on each side of the former entrance has been retained. The auditorium behind is in use as a nightclub and has a different entrance.
