1965: Walter conceived and conducted a Band-A-Thon on KLBK-TV to
raise the money needed to take the Texas Tech band to perform at the
Gator Bowl. Regular programming was suspended for 15 hours
while Walter conducted the marathon telecast. Some of the band
performed in the studio as well as other local performers.
Walter appealed for donations and kept the audience informed of the
running total. The money was raised, and Walter was invited to join the band on the trip,
and he had a wonderful time. |
