Forks in the Road: Preface Who in the world would be interested in the autobiography of an unknown? Well, my offspring and my friends, both of whom continue to multiply. But that’s a pretty limited clientele for a book, isn’t it? For many years now, when relating various unusual things that have occurred to me during my lifetime, I have been told “You Should Write a Book.” So, on the chance that these encouragements were justified, here it is! Not that I am a totally unknown person; I have been what you might call a “local celebrity” for years. Trouble is, I changed my “locality” so many times, and the brass ring of national celebrity, attained by many in my field of entertainment, was never grabbed. My title denotes the several key points in my life at which I reached a “Fork in the Road,” the necessity of making a choice that very well changed its course, and my fascination with speculating on what might have resulted had I taken the “other path” in one or more instances. So, to my children, their children, and anyone else who might tune in, welcome to the story of my life.
